Autumn Events Announced

This week Backstage Theatre’s Autumn brochure will big arriving through letterboxes across the region, bursting with a host of unmissable events to keep you busy this Autumn.  With shows already selling fast, it’s clear there is a big hunger for entertainment and Backstage has just the menu to whet the appetites of local audiences.

There is a wealth of music gigs this season with “The Greatest 80’s” selling out in record time and Donegal favourites, Onóir, already nearing the coveted “sold out” status.  Tickets are also moving fast for both The Ennio Morricone Experience, celebrating the work of the legendary film score composer of The Mission and much more as well as Mick Flavins” concert that celebrates fifty years in the business.  Fellow Longford musician Brendan Kelly will also take to the stage this December for a much anticipated concert while Route 66, Rob Strong, Sean Keane, Abba Tribute and The Fureys make a welcome return this season.

On the theatre front Seamus O’Rourke is back by popular demand with good old Mossy Flood and Druid stallworth, Aaron Monaghan, takes to the stage in Livin Dred’s brand new comedy Super-Bogger written by Aaron’s wife and Moonboy star Clare Monnelly.  The season kicks off with The Parish, another anticipated comedy that has been making waves this summer.  The award-winning Oliver Cromwell is Really Very Sorry is an outrageous and raucous musical comedy about the man the English don’t remember and the Irish will never forget written by award-winning Roscommon born cabaret star and writer Xnthony.  “Blue Thunder” will take audiences out of the auditorium for an up-close and personal theatrical experience that takes place in a van (tickets for this unique experience are limited so early booking is advised.)  Star of “An Cailin Cuin,” Michael Patrick, brings historical figure Sean Moylan to life in his funny and interesting account of key events during the War of Independence.

Schools and families have lots to look forward to with Longford’s own Darren Yorke bringing his beautiful show Fergal to stage for schools, families and a special sensory production also.  Other shows to look out for are Rothar by Branar Theatre, Polar Bear & Pengin, an exciting poetry workshop and Livin Dred’s A Christmas Carol.

We are proud to have teamed Backstage Youth Theatre up with professional director Urusla McGinn to bring you Variations, an unmissable play about family, string theory and breakfast and Backstage Theatre Group bring you The Hotel Room, a must-see comedy starring a host of local talent.  There will be more local talent on display with Longford Variety Group’s Night Fever, Evolution Stage School’s Time to Shine and St Christopher’s anticipated Christmas concert Cinderella.   Longford Flower Show & Pat & Faye Shortt complete the Christmas line-up
