Root – an innovative new production from former Activate Resident Luke Casserly that poses the question: If a tree could speak, what would it say?

There was a time when a red squirrel could have journeyed from the north to the south of Ireland through tree-travel alone. That native forest, which once covered 80% of our island, has been systematically uprooted over time to leave Ireland with the lowest tree cover in Europe. Where has this ancient forest gone? What would its ghost tell us about ourselves and our history?

At the intersection of devised performance and ecology, Root takes a look into Ireland’s forestry system by handing over the microphone to a tree to hear what it has to say.
