Harp Media’s Robert Higgins and Patrick McGivney join us as part of Activate for a development residency to workshop their new feature film Saint’s Island, a coming-of-age drama set in the Irish midlands.

Through the story of a father and son brought together by circumstance, Saint’s Island explores masculinity, identity, family legacy and the search for belonging in a rapidly changing rural Ireland. Set against the backdrop of a disappearing pool-hall culture, the film examines how young people inherit both the dreams and failures of the generations that came before them, and asks whether it is possible to break free from the patterns that shape our lives.

Blending humour, warmth and melancholy, the project is as much a portrait of a community in transition as it is a story about family, friendship and redemption.

Robert and Patrick will work with actors Moe Dunford and Cal O’Driscoll throughout the residency, exploring character, dialogue and structure as they continue the development of the screenplay.
