The world is ravaged by the War… a Boy finds refuge in a shelter. He is alone, frightened, cut off from any contact with anyone in the outside world. Or is he…? A surprise awaits him in that seemingly hostile and desolate place: an unexpected interlocutor with whom the Boy experiences dramatic ebbs and flows, before resistance turns into acceptance, misgivings into trust, estrangement into friendship.
The Letter is a puppetry play for young audiences (10+), which explores the theme of war and its impact on children. In this piece, ‘war’ implies not only an armed conflict between two warring factions but also all conflicts that produce deep divisions and long-lasting enmities. Combining elements of immersive theatre, puppetry, stage design and original music score, the two characters of The Letter travel together with the audience along the path of gradually building trust, care, empathy and friendship.
The Letter brings together artists from Croatia, Serbia, Slovenia, and Ireland. It is financed by the Dublin City Arts Office Ireland, Creative Hubs Programme and the Central State Office for Croats Abroad. The project is being produced by Playground Productions (Hannah Mullan) and Gea Gojak with the support of Backstage Theatre, the Croatian Centre UNIMA, 29th Puppet Spring Festival and Istrian National Theatre Pula, Croatia.
