Sounds of the Blue Book is a powerful and immersive musical experience inspired by the extraordinary life of Irish humanitarian Roger Casement.
In 1910, Casement travelled deep into the Amazon rainforest of Peru to document horrific human rights abuses against Indigenous communities under the rubber trade.
His report, later known as The Blue Book, became a foundational document in international human rights history.
Now, over a century later, Peruvian-Irish guitarist and composer Rodrigo Almonte brings Casement’s journey to life through an evocative suite of music blending jazz, improvisation, and traditional Peruvian and Irish sounds.
Featuring Lorenzo Vitolo on piano and Matthew Jacobson on drums and glockenspiel, the trio crafts rich sonic textures that carry audiences through the Amazonian jungle, ancestral rhythms, and historical testimony.
Combining story and sound, Sounds of the Blue Book is more than a concert—it’s a multisensory narrative of resistance, resilience, and cultural memory.
With critical acclaim from All About Jazz and Jazz Views, the trio has toured Peru and now launches their debut album in Ireland.
Don’t miss this stunning intersection of music, history, and humanity.
