Catherine Young, our Lead Artist in Residence (2023–2025), continues to create important and groundbreaking work as part of her three-year residency at Backstage Theatre. This Autumn, Catherine returns to develop exciting new dance projects that explore powerful themes and foster deep connection through movement
Throughout her residency, Catherine has been committed to both artistic innovation and community engagement. She is currently focused on the development of two new show, one a new collaboration with El Funoun dance company from Palestine. These new works will build on her powerful body of choreography, while also continuing her collaboration with Backstage on initiatives that celebrate diversity and cultural inclusion through dance.
During her time with us, Catherine has already made a significant impact. Her large-scale intercultural project Céilí Afro Dabke Ukraine brought together communities from across Longford for a vibrant series of workshops and a celebratory public céilí. Catherine’s critically acclaimed productions A Call to You & Floating on a Dead Sea opened at Backstage Theatre before going on to tour nationally and in 2026 CYD will open its national tour of Ciseach at Backstage.
