Catherine Young, our lead artist in residence (2023-2025), will be developing exciting new projects for 2024 during her residency time this Autumn. She will be re-imaging her 2021 work ‘Floating on a Dead Sea’ for touring, a piece made during lockdown and inspired by her time in Palestine. Catherine is excited to bring this work to its full scale potential post lockdown with an enlarged cast and will tour to all the NASC venues in 2024. Catherine will also be researching a new show to premiere in Summer 2024 as well as working with Backstage Theatre to deliver another Céilí Afro Dabke Ukraine event in Longford to foster cultural integration and inclusion through dance.
So far during her time with us Catherine has just completed our “Céilí Afro Dabke Ukraine” project which brought different cultures living in Longford for a series of dance workshops, culminating in a large Ceili complete with live music. Her show “A Call to You” previewed in Backstage before premiering at the Dublin Dance Festival to a rapturous reception.
