2022 Activate Resident Caoimhe O’Malley made good use of her time at Backstage to develop her play The Thinking, an absurd two-person comedy about a highly strung debt collector that relies heavily on the use of set and props. On a larger scale, the play discusses the societal issue of debt collection, while exploring the themes of motherhood and parental ties.
During the residency, Caoimhe and her creative team explored the mechanisms of the text in a rehearsal period to better understand the play’s unique requirements, as well as the ways in which lighting and sound could be used in tandem with movement in the telling of the story.
